The Balance Club - A Natural Next Chapter!

Why We’re Building a Physical Community at The Balance Project

At The Balance Project, we have always believed in the power of education.

We believe that when women understand their bodies, their hormones, their health, and their experiences more clearly, they feel more confident, more informed, and more empowered to take care of themselves.

But over time, I have come to realise something else just as important:

Information matters. But connection matters too.

In fact, for many women, connection may be the missing piece.

We can read the books. Listen to the podcasts. Follow the experts. Attend the workshops. Learn the science. But there is something uniquely powerful about being together in real life - talking, walking, laughing, sharing stories, and being reminded that we are not doing life alone.

That is why we have decided to start building a physical community through The Balance Project.

Not because we want to add more noise or more “wellness events” to the calendar. But because we genuinely believe women need spaces to gather. Spaces that feel warm, easy, welcoming, and real. Spaces where support happens naturally.

Why this feels so important

Modern life can be incredibly disconnected.

Many women are carrying so much - work, caregiving, relationships, emotional labour, changing health, family responsibilities, and the invisible mental load that rarely gets acknowledged properly. Even when surrounded by people, it is still possible to feel isolated.

And yet, we know instinctively what research has been telling us for years: human connection is not a luxury; it is a health need.

Feeling part of something matters.

Being able to show up and be with other women matters.

Having spaces where conversation flows naturally, where laughter comes easily, and where no one has to explain too much - that matters.

There is something deeply regulating about being with people who make you feel at ease. Something restorative about walking beside someone, chatting over coffee after a hike, sharing the shock of cold water before a sea swim, or laughing at the chaos of a dog walk that was absolutely meant to be calm and somehow never is.

These moments can sound simple. But they are not small.

They remind us that wellbeing is not only built in the big, serious, educational moments. It is also built in ordinary human connection.

Why we are doing this now

The more work we do with women, the clearer it becomes that what so many people are craving is not just guidance - it is belonging.

Women want places where they can come as they are.

They want to feel welcome if they arrive on their own.

They want spaces that are not overly formal, performative, or intimidating.

They want to move their bodies, clear their heads, meet good people, and leave feeling better than when they arrived.

And honestly, I think we underestimate how powerful women are when they are together.

When women gather, they do what they have always done:
they talk, they share, they laugh, they encourage, they support, and they make things feel lighter for one another.

That kind of support does not always need to be structured to be valuable. Often, it is the most natural and unforced moments that have the biggest impact.

What this community will look like

This new physical community from The Balance Project will be built around simple, regular opportunities to come together.

We will be organising:

  • frequent hikes

  • sea swims and saunas

  • waggathons - which, for anyone else who did not know, is essentially a meet-and-walk with your dog

  • and other gatherings that make it easy for women to connect in a way that feels natural and enjoyable

The focus is not perfection. It is not fitness. It is not pressure.

It is connection, movement, conversation, laughter, and support.

It is creating the kind of spaces where women can exhale a little.

Our first two events

We are so excited to begin with our first two community events as part of The Balance Project Club.

The first is something a little different, but deeply aligned with what we believe in.

We will be attending RCSI's "Your Menopause Matters: Shaping Future Healthcare Education" workshop on Tuesday 14 July from 2-4pm, and we would love you to join us as part of The Balance Project Club.

We believe in helping shape and change the future for the women coming after us, and that is exactly what this workshop is about.

Project CHIME - Creating Holistic & Inclusive Menopause Education - is an RCSI initiative designed to improve menopause education for healthcare students, helping ensure that future healthcare professionals have the knowledge and understanding needed to provide excellent care to people experiencing perimenopause and post-menopause.

If you have lived experience of perimenopause or post-menopause that you would like to share, the CHIME project team invites you to take part in an interactive workshop in the Humanarium, facilitated by RCSI students and staff.

Tea and coffee will be provided, and all you need to bring is yourself and whatever experiences or reflections you would like to share.

This feels like such a meaningful way to begin - not only by bringing women together, but by creating space for women to influence how menopause is understood and taught in the future.

Our second event will be our first hike on 18 July at Ticknock Forest, Dublin.

We will be exploring the beautiful Fairy Castle Loop, one of Dublin's most loved walking trails. Located just 25 minutes from Dublin City Centre, Ticknock offers a brilliant mix of forest roads, woodland trails, gravel paths, and rocky tracks, with panoramic views across Dublin Bay and the Dublin Mountains.

It feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter.

A morning of fresh air, movement, and connection.

No pressure. No performance. Just a relaxed opportunity for women to come together, enjoy the outdoors, and meet new people.

Whether you come on your own or with friends, you will be very welcome.

What I hope this becomes

I hope this becomes more than a series of events.

I hope it becomes a real community.

A place where women feel they belong.

A place where friendships are formed.

A place where support becomes normal.

A place where women can show up exactly as they are - whether they are thriving, struggling, rebuilding, figuring things out, or simply in need of a good walk and good company.

Because health is not just about what we know.

It is also about how connected we feel.

And in a world where so many people are lonely, overwhelmed, or quietly carrying too much on their own, creating spaces for genuine connection feels not just valuable, but necessary.

A thought I keep coming back to

Connection is not an extra when it comes to health; it is part of the foundation.

That is the spirit behind this new chapter at The Balance Project.

Not just education. Not just events.

Belonging.
